ImageChristine High - Contributing Writer - NMRA Report

Attention readers! Hey, I'm Christy. Some say that I may bleed gasoline; some say an NMRA calendar turns me on more than naked men in a magazine; and some say I'm just plain nuts. Well, some of them are right. I'll let you figure out which ones. However, I will tell you that I’m fascinated with cars, especially my own Mustang: Vixen.

I wasn’t always into Fords, though (it’s a sin, I know). I was raised in a strictly bowtie-wearing family, all of whom drag raced their Chevys around the country. My father’s prized possession was his 68 Camaro RS/SS, running 10s in the quarter mile. He was a reaction-time king and would win most of his races at the tree. Unfortunately, he became very ill when I was young and wasn’t able to teach me much so all of my learning has been on my own, yet inspired by his life.

When I was searching for a car, I was actually on the prowl for a WS6 Trans Am (really guys, don’t shoot me after this). I stopped at a dealership and saw Vixen sitting there and it was love at first sight. It was time to crossover to the dark side.

Vixen and I bonded at first drive (she taught me how to drive a stick; I never even stalled her). Within the first few months I had installed new suspension, new rims, cosmetic items, exhaust, intake components, ported heads and a set of cams. What a great entrance into the Mustang World, eh? Unfortunately, the previous owner was not as kind to the car and the internal components were weak; 6 months into our relationship, 4 of the rod bearings spun. My philosophy is this: if something breaks, it’s time to upgrade. I called up Al Pappito of Boss330 Racing and told him I needed his help. I knew he was a busy man, but worth the wait. Six weeks later I was in Vero Beach loading my new shortblock into the back of a pickup truck and headed south to install it. Vixen was on the road again! Since then, she’s had many upgrades including full exhaust, more cosmetics and a fully built rear end.

I have left an important part out though: the pink. I wanted my car to stand out from the rest. Mustangs are a dime a dozen, but some are more memorable than others and I wanted mine to be one of them. What better way to do that than make her my very own and adorn her with treatments of my signature color? Vixen not only has pink stripes on the hood and pink interior pieces, but underneath the hood lies pink valve covers and a pink timing cover. As some have said, “it sort of looks like [I] spilled a bottle of Pepto Bismol in the engine bay,” but in a good way of course.

Along with my involvement in my own Mustang, I also partake in many Mustang, Ford and general automotive related events. From local weekly car meets, local car shows and local mustang clubs like SouthFloridaStangs.net to larger events like the 9/11 Tribute Run, Steeda Stampede, the Performance Racing Industry trade show and NMRA events. I work full time as a Tech at DiabloSport, a worldwide gas and diesel tuning company. Also, my car has been featured on such sites as Need2Speed.com and SouthFloridaRacing.com and has also been invited to display at events like the NASCAR RaceFest on Las Olas.

I look forward to bringing you the latest information on NMRA as well as general mustang info and maybe even a few tuning guides here and there. If you have any questions or comments for me, feel free to write to me via the website, email or good ol’ fashioned “snail mail”. And if you see me running around at an event, don’t be afraid to say hi. Until next time…

Hey everybody, my name's Doug and I'm a car nut.  I?d love to say I've been into cars my whole life, but alas, I am a recent convert.  Not only that, before I got my Mustang Mach 1, I had (gasp)...an import! I still feel it was a great learning experience, though-- it was a  great car to work on.  Before that car, a '98 Mitsubishi Eclipse
turbo, I didn't even change my own oil, but after building up that Eclipse, I now do most bolt-on work myself, from brakes to fuel pumps  and injectors to who knows what next.  I always have my eye out for the latest go-fast and look-cool goodies, too.  I look forward to bringing you the best Mustang coverage around!
